Reactor Types and Functions
Harmonic Filter Reactors: Connected in series with capacitor banks, they create high impedance at harmonic frequencies, thus preventing harmonic propagation to the grid.
They are usually selected with reactance ratios of 5.67% / 7% / 14%.
It reduces the risk of resonance in the system and increases the lifespan of the capacitor.
Current Limiting Reactors: Limit the sudden current peaks that occur when capacitor banks are commissioned.
It protects equipment such as circuit breakers, contactors, and capacitors.
It plays a critical role, especially in back-to-back switching situations.
